The human body is a complex machine that is stuck in an incredibly complicated balancing act. If the myriad of chemicals and hormones that maintain your body’s status quo are off kilter for whatever reason, then one of the unfortunate side effects can be unwanted hair on your body and face. This may affect you from birth, after puberty, or at any age due to a change in your body. If this hair is especially light and fine, then it can sometimes be ignored, but usually this hair is darker and coarser than the hair on top of your head. The two main areas that this effects on the face are above the eyes, and around the mouth. There are some very simple steps you can take to minimise the appearance of these hairs however, with different methods to suit you. The most important thing to remember is never to use a razor on your face, as the hairs will grow back coarser and even more visible, five o’clock shadow might be a great look for him, but not so much for you.
Around the Mouth: Top Lip
Every woman has hair on their top lip, but for some this is thicker and darker than for others. This is a good place to use Cold Wax Facial Strips. Test first on a small patch of skin, like your legs, to make sure that your skin doesn’t have an adverse reaction. Apply the strip to the top lip and pull away using the special Easy Grip™ tab to leave you with a beautifully smooth lip for up to four weeks. If you wish to avoid waxing, another option could be bleaching. Bleached hairs can blend with your skin tone, meaning they’ll almost disappear completely, although this might not be completely effective with darker skin tones.
Around the Mouth: Chin
These hairs are usually few and sparse, so the best technique would be to pluck these with tweezers, or to again use Cold Wax Facial Strips. It shouldn’t take too long, and shouldn’t be too painful! Removing these hairs at the root means that they will take a long time to grow back, usually up to four weeks, and the advantage of using the strips is that you can get this smoothness in just one pull!
Above the Eyes: Brow
Lots of women would kill for a pair of thick dark eyebrows like Leslie Caron, or Audrey Hepburn (even though hers were almost completely drawn on!) For those of a well-endowed brow, it is a blessing, but also a curse. Having to tame unruly brow hairs to make sure you stay looking more An American in Paris, than An American Werewolf in London can be a chore. The best way to keep these looking shapely is to use a precision wax product, as these can ensure you get the straight and even lines you want.
Above the Eyes: Uni-Brow
Depending on how many hairs you have here, waxing or plucking could be the best option. The most important thing to remember is not to use a razor! Shaving can leave un-natural looking straight ends to the brow, as well as creating stubble as soon as within a few days.
If you feel that the hair on your face and body is much thicker than average, it may be worthwhile to visit your doctor, because this can sometimes be a symptom of a more serious issue. This is particularly relevant if this change came on suddenly and wasn’t associated with anything else that could affect your hormones such as puberty, pregnancy, or the menopause.
